Interesting Yasukuni gunto package

This Yasumitsu gunto comes with an interesting package containing plenty of provenance from the original owner.

its abit annoying that the mekugi ana was put through the mei,  and the habaki is catching my eye for the wrong reason.  iv owned yasukunito but never a imperial gift sword but i would expect something better formed.  maybe the original was damaged or lost and new one was made??

Yes, it is rather odd that they put the only mekugi ana right through the Yasu character. I wonder if that affects the value of the sword?

Nothing suspicious about the sword, it is correctly signed Yasumitsu Kin Saku as all Onshi should be. The Habaki is consistent with other Onshi. Knowledge is power.

John, Are the habaki you posted from your files?  I don't see them on the Jauce auction gunto.

 

@Gerry - Thanks for posting this.  I've gotten some great Imperial Gift habaki to add to my files, and all of these are better than the one I had in the Stamps doc.  I've updated the document with a good one from this thread.
