Roger Wildcat Posted December 26, 2009 Report Posted December 26, 2009 I inherited my grandfather's sword yesterday and I am interested to learn all that I can about this sword. The blade had surface rust that left behind dark spots when I removed it back in the early 1990s. The scabbard is missing, but seems that everything else is still on the sword. Quote
Bruno Posted December 26, 2009 Report Posted December 26, 2009 Well I am certainly wrong, but the mei looks like my Kanemune one.... Quote
Roger Wildcat Posted December 26, 2009 Author Report Posted December 26, 2009 What I do know is that this sword is one of several that he took as a war trophys when he was in Tokyo after WW2. Quote
John A Stuart Posted December 26, 2009 Report Posted December 26, 2009 It sure does Bruno. Kanemune, Showa ni ju nen ichi gatsu. 1945 january. John Quote

Bruno Posted December 26, 2009 Report Posted December 26, 2009 Kanemune(Fukumoto) used to work at the SEKI NIHON TO RAN JO in Gifu prefecture, he is the legitimate son of Fukumoto HAMAHIDE who was another smith, if that could help you.... Quote
Stephen Posted December 26, 2009 Report Posted December 26, 2009 This is a very late war blade and looks to be a factory blade from the poor mei, dont think it was the son of Amahide...no H....just a worker who chipped in a name .. Edit well looked him up and his mei is very chippy....for better eyes to decide. Quote
