Sword box translation

Hi guys....

 

Let me start at the start of the beginning.

 

I was happily have a scotch or 2, and noticed this rather old and rough looking box. Ignoring the newly made sword box i was meant to buy i instead went with what the scotch told me to do and got this instead. 

 

I really hope it says what i hope it says. 

 

Please give me confirmation

明治二年巳八月造之 – In Meiji 2^nd year (1869), year of snake, 8^th month, made this.

 

作者上市町大工小八 – Maker, Kamiichi-machi, carpenter Kohachi

(Unsure about red characters)

Nice box, maybe belonging in the "Boxes we like" thread! Unusually fluid, beautiful writing for a carpenter. Quite eccentric, though!
