Hi,

I am struggling with this nakago. I guess it is from Showa Kunihiro.

May someone  give me the full translation of bothe sides of the nakago please?

With the courtesy of M. SESKO I think he is

KUNIHIRO (国広), Shōwa (昭和, 1926-1989), Fukuoka – “Chikushū Yanagawa-jū Yashirō
Kunihiro” (筑州柳川住弥四郎国広), “Kunihiro” (国広), real name Hiroki Kunio (広木国男),
he lived in Yanagawa ́s Yashirō-chō (弥四郎町), he signed first with Akitsugu (昭次) and studied
under Nakao Sanjirō (中尾三治郎) and Miyairi Yukihira (宮入行平)

Thanks

To me, the date looks like showa 52, which would be 1977. Kunihiro lived until 1989 so perhaps a gendaito???

How do you know Kunihiro passed away in 1989?

Piers, you mean the right column is the name and birth of the original owner?

Quite a tough one for my limited skills.

My mistake. I had read the wrong info, however Piers and I agree on the date Showa 52.

Yes, possibly, …but I am not really sure why it would say that.

The date on the left may be the time of manufacture, June of Showa 52.

Do you not find it strange that it records the date of birth of the owner, but not the name of the owner, Moriyama San?

It is almost as if it is recording two births…

Is it likely that this ‘owner’ is also the smith?

Shaky theories… blade was a personal gift from smith to owner?  Or a special order birthday present between acquaintances?  The one date states when the blade was made and the other is the owners birthday.  I guess the smith or person(s) ordering the blade did not feel the need to put the owners name on the blade?
