Alex A
Sad to read this, the Tosogu world has lost its main man, a man that gave his time to help and educate others. His replies here were legendary and straight to the point, we all learned something. He will be missed immensely. RIP Ford.
ROKUJURO
This is so sad news, and I am devastated. I knew him personally and we had contact from time to time; he has worked with material from me. I loved his sensitive and knowledgeable approach to Japanese art. His suffering has ended, but he cannot be replaced, and his passing will leave a vacuum. 1

general_piffle
Such sad news. Ford helped me enormously with a daisho, a pair of Ito school tsubas and other koshirae matters. We communicated over several years. He was always a gentleman, a powerhouse of knowledge, and an artist in his craft. This is as much a sad loss for the community as it is for the wider world of nihonto.
1kinko
The entire tosogu craftsmanship world in the west was opened up by Ford and he was 1 step away from mukansa in Japan. I hope NBTSK awards him a life time service award. I was fortunate to take classes (3) from him and to visit him in England 2 years ago. He will be sorely missed.

Geraint
My family and I are deeply shocked by this news. We managed to spend some time with Ford many years ago when he was down this way, a truly great artist craftsman with a thirst for knowledge and understanding. He has left us too soon and will be greatly missed. Our condolences to his family.
