I've just been informed reliably.
I'm in too much shock to post much more right now, will post later. Very sad to hear this. I edited the title so it is clear what has happened.
HUGE loss to the Tosogu world. Condolences to all who knew him. Terrible day.

No words other than - Thank you Ford for all your wonderful teaching and insight over the years. The craft has lost a true master. My deepest condolences to all those affected.

What a shock. Ford helped me a lot going way back over 40 years. True genius, not just technically but artistically. What a loss. RIP mate.

Sad to read this, the Tosogu world has lost its main man, a man that gave his time to help and educate others.

His replies here were legendary and straight to the point, we all learned something.

He will be missed immensely.

RIP Ford.

This is so sad news, and I am devastated. I knew him personally and we had contact from time to time; he has worked with material from me.
I loved his sensitive and knowledgeable approach to Japanese art. His suffering has ended, but he cannot be replaced, and his passing will leave a vacuum.

Such sad news. Ford helped me enormously with a daisho, a pair of Ito school tsubas and other koshirae matters. We communicated over several years.

He was always a gentleman, a powerhouse of knowledge, and an artist in his craft. This is as much a sad loss for the community as it is for the wider world of nihonto.

The entire tosogu craftsmanship world in the west was opened up by Ford and he was 1 step away from mukansa in Japan. I hope NBTSK awards him a life time service award. I was fortunate to take classes (3) from him and to visit him in England 2 years ago. He will be sorely missed.

Devastating news.
My heartfelt condolences. I remember Ford as a patient teacher, always willing to answer questions, inform others about the work and techniques of Tsubako.
Wishing everybody, but especially his family and close friends all the strength in the world.

My family and I are deeply shocked by this news.  We managed to spend some time with Ford many years ago when he was down this way, a truly great artist craftsman with a thirst for knowledge and understanding.  He has left us too soon and will be greatly missed. Our condolences to his family.

I agree very sad news. I feel very priviledged to have learned so much from him, and that he was a very inspiring teacher and artisan. He will be greatly missed. Requiescat in pace!
