官幣大社 石清水八幡宮
御神宝    御太刀    以    餘    光鉄

Iwashimizu Hachimangu Shrine, a government-sponsored shrine, is a sacred treasure: the sword Yokotetsu
KAMPEITAISHA IWASHIMIZU HACHIMANGU GOJIMPO MITACHI YI YU KOTETSU  (this is the google translation)

it's the last 7 kanji/moji that IMO states:  1st 3 kanji -honorable tachi  4th - at/with   5th   offering    last 2-    brilliant steel/iron  - so was this a new shiny/glistening  sword made from a probably tired old tachi and offered to the shrine ?  this inscription is on a sword a friend is contemplating - thanks

御神宝御太刀 – Honorable tachi which is a sacred treasure

以餘光鉄 – from the remaining afterglow iron

The smith made the tachi which was dedicated to the shrine. And he made another sword (or tachi) from the remaining sacred iron which had been prepared to make the tachi for the shrine.

Moriyamasan,  So there were two (2) swords made from this prepared steel ?  A honorable tachi and another katana or tachi ?   I say this because this sword has katana-mei . thank you.
