Teece3 Posted July 31, 2024 Report Posted July 31, 2024 This tired sword was purchased locally at an estate sale for under $100, no information was known. It certainly looks genuine, although it may not be. It may have been signed at some point and if so why would the signature be removed? Is that long rectangle something else entirely? There are no other markings. Quote
2devnul Posted July 31, 2024 Report Posted July 31, 2024 Hello, I need more/better pictures please. Although my first impression is that sword is NOT Nihonto (Nakago, lack of Yokote). Please post a picture of full Sugata, better pictures of whole Nakago, try to capture Hamon/Hada in closeup. 1 Quote
Teece3 Posted July 31, 2024 Author Report Posted July 31, 2024 It’s there but very faint, the blade is very worn, still sharp but scratched and neglected. Quote
Teece3 Posted July 31, 2024 Author Report Posted July 31, 2024 Sugata is shinogi Zukuri, hard to capture in pictures. Quote
Tohagi Posted August 2, 2024 Report Posted August 2, 2024 ...could have been an old horimono wear off by over polishing but the nakago does not look suriage... The blade is very very tired... Best Éric Quote
Teece3 Posted August 2, 2024 Author Report Posted August 2, 2024 Thanks for the reply, other thoughts were that this was an umegane attempt. Quote
raaay Posted August 2, 2024 Report Posted August 2, 2024 I would also be concerned about the mune-machi and ha-machi being out of line , just my two pence worth ! Quote
