This tired sword was purchased locally at an estate sale for under $100, no information was known. It certainly looks genuine, although it may not be. It may have been signed at some point and if so why would the signature be removed? Is that long rectangle something else entirely? There are no other markings.

I need more/better pictures please. Although my first impression is that sword is NOT Nihonto (Nakago, lack of Yokote). 

Please post a picture of full Sugata, better pictures of whole Nakago, try to capture Hamon/Hada in closeup.

...could have been an old horimono wear off by over polishing but the nakago does not look suriage...

 

The blade is very very tired...
