Cookie4Monstah Posted July 21, 2024 Report Posted July 21, 2024 Greetings, I have two swords that I am looking to restore. One of them appears to be signed Taira Shizunori. The other one is mumei. Ray was kind enough to examine a few mediocre pictures of the mumei blade, and loosely called it a (Kanenobu/Shigaseki). How do these two smiths compare? Would you restore either one of them? Both are in mediocre condition. Best, Khalid Quote
David Flynn Posted July 21, 2024 Report Posted July 21, 2024 Without any photo's, your guess is as good as mine. 1 Quote
mywei Posted August 2, 2024 Report Posted August 2, 2024 From a purely financial standpoint, you will not recoup the cost of restoration/proper polishing on these blades if you choose to resell later, even if signature is authentic But if there's sentimental value then I'd say go for it Quote
Cookie4Monstah Posted August 2, 2024 Author Report Posted August 2, 2024 Greetings Matt, My restoration costs (currently) are as follows: Polishing: $3K (USD) Shirasaya: $1K (USD) Habaki: $1K (USD) Shinsa: $1K (USD) I have come to the realization that the restoration of nihonto requires some degree of affluence. Given that these are my current costs, I cannot afford to take a nosedive on a restoration project at this time, if anything. Quote
Jacques Posted August 3, 2024 Report Posted August 3, 2024 What kind of yasurime on the "Kanenobu" please? Quote
Cookie4Monstah Posted August 3, 2024 Author Report Posted August 3, 2024 Hi Jacques, I’ve attached the auction link for the sword bellow with some more detailed pictures. https://bid.poulinau...TRAL-BLADE_i52750601 I hope this helps, Khalid Quote
Jacques Posted August 3, 2024 Report Posted August 3, 2024 Don't works, i cannot see nakago and the description says nothing about yasurime If this sword is from Shiga Kanenobu yasurime should be saka Takanoha Quote
