Stephen Posted December 15, 2009 Report Posted December 15, 2009 Seeing a ban of my post to come I wish to all in the Nihonto world a great new year in learning hunting finding Nihonto. To all that know me and need my help in anyway, my email is H2obro1@aol.com. I will not be called a crook. I have spent countless hours helping the new, I do not profess to be a great scholar of our madness (Nihonto) but I remember what it was like to take the first steps and the joy of my first translation. It seems my points of view a bit out dated too the new Nihonto world, maybe to much passing of bad or not so true info, it has never been my intent to deceive or mislead anyone. Thanks to Swiss member this AM for the great workout I had a the Y. one of the better ones working off steam. Some clever editing too I see. Keep hammering into all heads that its not good to buy cheap nihonto, let it be written. So to all i have known over the years, live long and prosper.
deskjet Posted December 15, 2009 Report Posted December 15, 2009 Stephen ,i hope you are not leaving ....you have been a great help to me on the board and in person ,looking after and getting shinsaed my lovely KEITH Austin blade ,i it could not have been in safer hands. The board will not be the same without you ,i hope you reconsider and i thank you again for all you help and friendship in the past. best regards Anthony
Bruno Posted December 15, 2009 Report Posted December 15, 2009 Yes Stephen, you are one of the pillar of the forum. I will be very disapointed if you would decide to leave. You are a very helpfull person, with a nice sense of humor. Sometime direct but always against contemptuous people. Please stay!
IanB Posted December 15, 2009 Report Posted December 15, 2009 Stephen, I do hope you will reconsider the decision I think you have made. We need people with your knowledge and views on the Board. Ian Bottomley
Curran Posted December 15, 2009 Report Posted December 15, 2009 Stephen, I'm not sure what transpired where, and not my place to stick my nose in it- I may have my head up my arse 90% of the time worrying about other things in life, but NMB is a daily break for me and I count as precious the few minutes I get to spend here even if I cannot be as active in the hobby as I'd like. I mentally thank Brian for it every day, and I wish I could correspond/contribute 1/10th as much as I'd like. Point is we've lost too many good people over the past few years. From the Keith Austin tanto to to many other times where I've silently enjoyed your posts... if you are thinking of leaving... reconsider. Please. I can't hold a gun to your head and make you stay, but you're one that I would if I could.
Brian Posted December 15, 2009 Report Posted December 15, 2009 No-one is being asked to leave. There are personality clashes here (show me a forum anywhere that doesn't have them) but what is that saying about "what doesn't kill us only makes us stronger"? Conflict happens. The strong get past it, and enjoy that which they are able to take from it. If controversy was a reason to leave, then goodness knows what I am still doing here  I don't see anyone accusing anyone of anything underhanded. If that happend, then perhaps editing was a way of correcting something written in the wrong tone Something like fast moderating to remove things said that offended others too? Anyways, this time of the year is always a rough one with plenty of overflowing emotion. Year-end emotion flood? I hope everyone is big enough to get through it. Brian
drbvac Posted December 15, 2009 Report Posted December 15, 2009 Stephen: A man has to do what a wife wants him to or words to that effect. For Gods sake don't make any decisions on participation in this board based on what anyone you dont know, never met, don't understand or respect for their reputation has said or intimated. The rest can go to hell so take it for what it is and carry on. I rarely care what people think - most can't. You on the other hand have established your rep here - carry on, all the best in the new year and understand that we all learn from your posts and opinions even though it may not be specific to one of us! Dr B
Bugyotsuji Posted December 15, 2009 Report Posted December 15, 2009 No idea what did or didn't happen, but in my experience Stephen has been nothing but a good influence here. Period. I hope you will continue to provide your light, humorous and well-considered input, guidance and comments here as always. The dogs may bark, but the elephant moves on...
reinhard Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 I rarely care what people think - most can't. Going along this sad and pathetic thread I stumbled over this statement. Can you specify? reinhard
Guido Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 Stephen, I'm speechless: instead of aplogizing for your personal insults and profanity (which were thankfully deleted by Brian), you're now playing the victim! If it were up to me, you would have been banned for quite some time now since this isn't the first time you're going below the belt. Shame on you!
Bazza Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 Stephen, I'm speechless: instead of aplogizing for your personal insults and profanity (which were thankfully deleted by Brian), you're now playing the victim! If it were up to me, you would have been banned for quite some time now since this isn't the first time you're going below the belt. Shame on you! HUH???!!! Stephen, Oyabun san, the first person to welcome me to this board (if my increasingly Swiss cheese brain remembers correctly) please halt, desist and stop any action you might be contemplating. Have a rest if you wish, but do stay. I echo Curran's words. I'm an editor of an antique arms magazine and had a blazing row in Committee one night with the president, threw my hat on the table, said "I don't need this", gave them my resignation and stormed out. Guess who is still editor... When I had cooled down (it took a few weeks, actually) I thought of all the fantastic people I know in antique arms collecting and decided that they shouldn't suffer for one man's unfortunate choice of words on one occasion. Now of course I have no idea what this is all about, but if you are thinking of leaving I add my voice to the clamour for you to stay - I for one would miss you too much. Bestests, BaZZa.
reinhard Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 Now of course I have no idea what this is all about Well, some of us do. Your feelings of loyalty to Stephen are probably most appreciated by some of NMB's members, but they are not a benchmark in this particular case. As you just said, you don't know what this is all about. reinhard
Ted Tenold Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 I have to say (and all I can really conclude) that I really am at a loss here folks. This is not how a community of people with common interests is supposed to co-exist. As much as we all appreciate and admire Nihonto, the element of dignity and respect, both public and personal, should not be compromised in the face of disagreements. Certainly, if harsh words are to be had, then that "public dignity side" should be protected through the provisions of private messaging or direct emails. As a moderator, I can only try to keep things on a straight track and provide guidance. It's not my place to ban people, and I don't want that magic button anyways. That action should be reserved for the spammers and trolls. What I can say, which is also a policy I apply to myself, is that participation is not manditory on NMB. If visiting it and/or participating it does not bring benefit of enjoyment, education, or socialization among those with common interests, then by all means seek out an alternative place that will provide enjoyment. I don't want to see members leave unless they feel they're not benefiting from their experiences here, but I also don't want to see people stay if it makes them miserable. Life is too short for that. Find a beach, a chair, and a beer instead. In the spirit of everything they're supposed to represent; Happy Holidays.
sanjuro Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 I'm new on this forum and I dont know everyone. I do know some of you from other forums. I also know this...... When the high horses have been put out to pasture and the posturing and pouting that accompanies most disagreements has been put aside. When tempers cool, there remains only the possibility of two circumstances. Either a grudge that will fester and poison the person holding it, or the acceptance of another's viewpoint and the agreement to differ. He that holds the biggest grudge loses. *original statement edited by moderator for unacceptable content* Life is too damn short for this crap.
Eric H Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 To avoid wrong conclusions ! Thanks to Swiss member this AM for the great workout I had a the Y. one of the better ones working off steam. Some clever editing too I see. Keep hammering into all heads that its not good to buy cheap nihonto, let it be written. As I am, officially, the only "Swiss" on the Board, I want to say that I have nothing to do with this affair. Eric
Stephen Posted December 16, 2009 Author Report Posted December 16, 2009 you're now playing the victim! being alluded to being somewhat shady and close to a crook is my ground Gman, you were not privy to the unedited post, ill put out the olive branch when ....you know what....never mind. To all out there, and there were a on slot of PM's and emails saying cool off disregard the olff and get on with what you do best helping out new guys. I give my heartfelt thanks to you and your friend ship. so Brian lock this pathetic thred or better yet send it to cyber space. If I do have any conflicts in the future it will be PM ed, expect it when you bring out your favorite whipping boy from France as it is getting old and very one sided To all you new members who don't have a clue to what's this is all about stick around and you'll see that a few members...more like a elite club of very very knowledgeable Nihontophile's use there intellect to bully new members/collectors around with little if any compassion. Eric nothing to do with you my friend there is another one.
Eric H Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 Eric nothing to do with you my friend there is another one. Stephen, thank you for your statement. Eric
drbvac Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 I rarely care what people think - most can't. Going along this sad and pathetic thread I stumbled over this statement. Can you specify? reinhard I meant I rarely care what people I don't personally know think as often most people can't (think ), and opinions are like a#*@ holes - everyone has one or can be one.
Henry Wilson Posted December 17, 2009 Report Posted December 17, 2009 Enough said. Could this thread be locked?
