G'day Guys,

I was hoping that someone may know something about what I believe is a family 'mon' embossed onto the hilt of this fairly ordinary Parade Sabre I recently purchased with the intention of listing.  I realise it's a bit of a long shot, but nevertheless felt it was probably worth asking the question.

Cheers David

Thanks mate,

I think I've found the clan which appears to be Li or 井伊氏

belonging to the Li Clan

There is no such surname/clan in Japan.

That is a mistranslation of Ii (double "i"), pronounced "ee" as in beet.

The one in question has no circle around it.
橘、薬師寺、小寺、武重、小倉、瀬戸、小野、米倉、赤井、井伊、貫名など

The Tachibana family used this Tachibana flower mon; among other families using it in variations were Yakushiji, Kodera, etc., including the famous 井伊 ‘i i’ that is so hard to write in Roman letters.
