IZUMINOKAMI KUNISADA

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I am grateful to find this forum. For months I have enjoyed reading your responses to one another and learning together.

Last week I purchased a Katana from Waki Auctions in Osaka. Singed Izuminokami Kunisada. Curious to know any further information.

There are limited photos until it arrives in the next months.

You will benefit by providing the group with more, and clearer, detail photos for evaluation. Most especially a clear vertical image of the inscription

Thank you Ray,

I have updated with some more photos. :)

Unfortunately I think you will find that this is not an authentic inscription for Izumi (no) kami Kunisada.

Thank you Ray.
Any accurate information of what it could be is appreciated.

Izumi no kami Kunisada was Inoue Shinkai's father . There are numerous daimei. That said this sword is gimei without any doubt Izumi is normally engraved like this :和泉 on your blade it is engraved the wrong way.

Nice long blade!

Look at the last 'sada' kanji of the name

Kunisada 國貞

(Compare with Kanesada 兼定)

Thank you for the information. I will add to the photos when it arrives. :)

OK, the Kunisada in this signature is 国定 and not 国貞. There is a listing in the Meikan for an Izumi no Kami Kunisada [和泉守国定]; however, the entry says "period and province unknown." Thus, while this might not be a mistaken writing of the wrong "sada" character, there seems to be no information on this smith.
