Type 95 Real or Fake

Recommended Posts

Copy. So all original Type 95 Gunto, I presume it's a later config with iron tsuba. Unserialized saya (but period correct). Any idea on current market value?

Yes. Not sure it's mismatched; just the serial number is missing. In pristine condition, I would expect it to be in the 1100 to 1500 range and even more for copper handle.

The serial number is 49810 and falls within the range used by Suya.  I agree with "John C" that the scabbard is a replacement, either lost or damaged beyond repair.

The scabbard inspection marks are as follows.

(This stamp is either struck at an angle or broken.)

Copper handle?

The earliest versions were made with copper metal handles. These carry a premium because of their limited numbers. There are threads here about them.

Type 95 Military Sword made by Suya, serial number 49810.

Seems the pictures are now missing from the OP.  Fortunately, I had downloaded and saved the pictures for later viewing.  Attached are the pictures which have been resized and converted to jpegs.
