Pat5353 Posted June 17, 2024 Report Posted June 17, 2024 Allô is it real Japon tsuba or fake copie Chinese! Quote
ROKUJURO Posted June 17, 2024 Report Posted June 17, 2024 Patrick, the photo is not well focused, so details cannot be seen, but I think the 3rd TSUBA (on the right) looks non-Japanese to me. 1 Quote
Jake6500 Posted June 17, 2024 Report Posted June 17, 2024 So this brand, Ryumon is a producer of kitchen knives and modern katana's. As far as I can tell they are a Chinese brand I think(?) based in Longquan, Zhejiang province. All of their products are modern ones with no historical value. https://www.swordsof...st.com/ryumon_1.aspx That said if you bought these modern Tsuba for display purposes and didn't pay too much, or bought them knowing they were modern pieces, I rather like them. 1 Quote
Spartancrest Posted June 17, 2024 Report Posted June 17, 2024 https://www.ebay.com/itm/235005954807 Like Jake has said - Chinese modern, If you paid the $55 ebay is asking you can buy real Edo [low end] for a little more money - [I suggest not through ebay though.] https://www.darkknig...ental-dragon-katana/ this shows the dragon tsuba made to fit replica swords. My advice if you see the box lid with RYUMON written on it - avoid!! What they don't show you in detail of the ura side! The company also doesn't mind stealing designs from Paul Chen Hanwei - modern copying modern. https://in.pinterest.../532621093405093939/ The Fuji-san one https://sbg-sword-st....com/product470.html Not very nice close up! What would we talk about? To Douglas Edgar Mills maybe you are Spartan-not-so-Sensei, but to me on the topic of Tsuba as a relatively new collector, you are Spartan Sensei 1 Quote
Pat5353 Posted June 18, 2024 Author Report Posted June 18, 2024 Thank you all for your answers, I was planning to buy them but ultimately I wouldn't buy it knowing that it is modern according to your answers. But where can I get real, old tsuba? ( on the Web)? Spoiler 1 Quote
Mark Posted June 18, 2024 Report Posted June 18, 2024 there are plenty of known, reputable dealers here on NMB. I see tsuba listed quite often. Grey Doffin has some nice tsuba and he is easy to deal with (caveat i partner with him) check his site https://www.Japanese...tegory/tsuba-kodogu/ mark 1 Quote
ROKUJURO Posted June 18, 2024 Report Posted June 18, 2024 Patrick, there are also a lot of private sales of TSUBA in the "For Sale" section. You could even specifify what you are looking for in the "Want to buy" section. Quote
