uwe Posted June 13, 2024 Report Posted June 13, 2024 "Stumbled" over a waki in a friends living room and couldn't resist to remove the tsuka. What surprisingly showed up was "和泉守来金道" (Izumi no Kami Rai Kinmichi) I have my doubts, so may I ask what do you think about this mei….gimei or could it be shoshin Quote
John C Posted June 13, 2024 Report Posted June 13, 2024 Not sure it will help with authentication, however I have a similar one on file for comparison. John C. 1 Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted June 14, 2024 Report Posted June 14, 2024 I have 5 Kinmichi on file and their mei varies a bit on each one. But they are WWII blades whereas this one looks much older. 1 Quote
uwe Posted June 14, 2024 Author Report Posted June 14, 2024 Yes, it’s older, Bruce. There were 5 generations starting 1596 till 1764. From the second generation onwards they signed that way, but I thought with a chrysanthemum?? Quote

Jacques Posted June 14, 2024 Report Posted June 14, 2024 I'm afraid it's gimei, kanji kami and Rai are different for the 4 generations John Number 2 and 3 are not from the same lineage mei reads : Iga no kami fujiwara Kinmichi picture attached yondai rai Kinmichi (Tokuho) 1 Quote
