I believe the side with the most characters reads "8 month lucky day 1 year of Tenna (tenwa) era",  but I'm not certain. As for the other side I'm not sure. Thank you for any and all help.

貞重 Sadashige

Your reading of the date is correct. However the Tenwa being at the end rather than the start, and the way the mei is cut seems a bit suspect imho

Thank you very much. Can I ask how you were able to tell it's sadashige? The first kanji looks very different to me but I'm new to this and want to understand.

The 'sada' is cut in a fairly typical way for 貞

Have a look at several signatures with that character in it like the example on the yari given above

I can post more pictures of the sword. I apologize in advance for the bad shape of the blade, it went though a house fire years ago and has been in rough shape since.

Like Jean Collin, I do not think this is actually Japanese. Any chance of seeing the complete blade please?

Kyle,

probably no big loss! It did not have much value before the fire, and now it is just a piece of metal. Your next sword will hopefully be an authentic one with lots of features to enjoy!

I was thrown by that Sada, too.  But you can see a similar style on this Sadahiro:
