I thought I'd source the collective experience of this forum to see if anyone has any ideas about what exactly this gunto I picked up a few years ago actually is.image.thumb.jpeg.476e792737bb7ccd98b6f167a7d6fe37.jpeg

Please more clearly show the nakago (even if unsigned). You occasionally see over-the-top Soshu style works from shinshinto smiths. Late Edo interpretation of hitatsura is what comes to mind.

Surprise, surprise....it's a supposed Yasunori!

The nakago patnina seems to suggest that it's a pretty new blade, probably Taisho or after.

And the person I bought it from said it was a WW2 bring-back, so the gimei signature probably was done during the war, which is a little unusual.

And the nagasa is 28.5 inches. Motohaba is about 2.5cm, and sakihaba is about 1.7cm. Definitely very slender proportions.

i dont have good feelings about this piece,  and im sure a few other members are thinking what im thinnking.

the koshirae isnt 100% original, the tsuka has a different age to the leather.  The placement of the mekugi is very odd.  but more importantly the blade has a modern feel to it.  the mei is a given writeoff as fake.  but that hamon is funny looking.
