hockeyjohn Posted May 31, 2024 Report Posted May 31, 2024 I have inherited a sword that my grandfather decided to bring home from ww2. It is definitely hand made and has a clear hamon line. I'm curious to see what era it was from, any information would be great, thanks. Quote
Nobody Posted May 31, 2024 Report Posted May 31, 2024 訪日旅行紀念 – Memorial of the trip to Japan 康徳四年四月 – Kotoku (an era name of Manchukuo) 4th year (1937), 4th month 祁韌守刀 – Guardian sword (? - unsure about the first two kannji) 月山之作ス – Gassan made this. 3 1 Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted May 31, 2024 Report Posted May 31, 2024 The signature does not match any of the mainline Gassan smiths. Quote
hockeyjohn Posted May 31, 2024 Author Report Posted May 31, 2024 Would this sword have any kind of value? Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted May 31, 2024 Report Posted May 31, 2024 Does it have any mountings? It does appear to be a genuine Japanese sword, so it is worth something. Quote
hockeyjohn Posted May 31, 2024 Author Report Posted May 31, 2024 I'll have to send more pictures later today but yes it has a wooden sheath and handle, but no wrapping and the pin to hold the handle either got lost a long time ago and is held on with a piece of rope tied through it. Quote
