Hello all- I'm quite new to the world of nihonto, and would like to ask your opinions on the provenance of the sword pictured below.  I bought it for its very nice feel, geometry, weight distribution, and ease of draw/noto for iai kata/waza.  It is unsigned, and was relatively inexpensive (suriage, nakago has been altered), but does have some nice features like a more forward bohi position and futasuji-bi behind.  As curiosity has gotten the better of me, I would be glad to know anything about the sword that the far more experienced on the forum may be generous enough to share from the photos below.

Some rough measurements include:

Nagasa: 72.5 cm

Nakago length: 15.3 cm

Kissaki length: 3.7 cm

Sori: 1.9 cm

Motohaba: 3 cm

Motogasane: 0.8 cm

Sakihaba: 2.3 cm

Sakigasane: 0.4 cm

Thank you very much for your interest and time,

Rob

Howdy, neighbor!

I am just a collector, and not an expert. I would avoid using it for practice until you've got a better idea of what you have. You never know!

I will be following along to see what the more knowledgable have to say.

Welcome to the forum!
Cheers from Tualatin,
Feel free to reach out if you wanna chat swords with a fellow beginner,

its a hard one, especially with this sugata. But the hada is dense and without flaws or much activity, though it does have some ji nie and itame is visible. Hamon is flamboyant probably nioi and is rather atypical in shape.

Something not too old is a possibility. Early Showa, late shinshinto
