Iron, kawarigata tsuba in the image of six bales of rice arranged in a circle. Rice was the unit of measurement of great wealth, so the design of this tsuba (and the many like it) is intended to convey the idea of wealth and prosperity – or the hope of such. The initial design may have come from Chōshū, but it was copied by many artists spanning many generations. Two hitsu-ana.
This tsuba is in very good condition.
