My Daisho adventure!

So I'm very new to collecting, only have a type 95 gunto so far (sorry bear with me!) Lol.

 

Happened to wander into a local antique shop today and found a genuine Daisho!

 

Umfortunatly in poor condition, with a fake signature on the katana too, but were great to see!

Samurai did on occasion pair oddball swords and fittings together, its not an exact science.

 

The tsuka look recent and fairly amateur

 

As said though, nothing wrong as a pair for display.

 

Daisho with real old provenance, in untouched condition, rare as hens teeth.

 

Ps, only looked at the koshirae, blade looks out of polish

The "mei" looks like it was attempted with a small punch rather than a chisel.

That lower one has a ruined nakago. Stuffed.
And a fake amateur signature. It was probably part of the blade at some point if it's even real.

How to sell poor quality swords, put them in same/similar modern/replica Koshirae and sale them as Daisho.

 

I always wonder why people think that Daisho should always be matching Koshirae. So many old photos (or even older drawings) of Samurai where you can see differencies on Wakizashi and Katana.

True Daisho may have been the goal for some but not always reality for others.

Hi Adam, would these have been for sale in Evesham. ??  If so I saw them there last year, and yes they were distressed . I never looked at the tangs , but that  signature has devalued the sword . Sad .

Adam, some years ago they had a good variety of Japanese swords .Like everything  they have dried up. You have to admit 

even so they still have a vast verity of stock to look at, sadly shops like this are disappearing and it’s all going on the net. Nice to see another member just south of Birmingham. I’m north near Lichfield . Brendan

Yeah when it was ran by the dad it have a great militaria section. Still a great shop!
