zuiho Posted May 15, 2024 Report Posted May 15, 2024 Hello, I've had this 25 years and was finally motivated to seek a translation of this saya insert. The sword is a middling o-suriage shinto wakizashi in unmarked M1905 fittings. Always assumed the kanji were just assembly notes but am curious to find out the facts, if possible. I apologize if the kanji are inverted. William G. Quote
SteveM Posted May 15, 2024 Report Posted May 15, 2024 弐拾七号 It means #27 (I don't know what the loop with the line through it signifies... maybe 日 - nichi - which means day/sun, not sure if it has any significance). Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted May 15, 2024 Report Posted May 15, 2024 I wonder if it's a mark to show where the first hanging loop lines up, or could it mean "for looped gunto no.27"? Quote
John C Posted May 15, 2024 Report Posted May 15, 2024 William: On some of my saya inserts, the number has matched the rest of the fittings. Is 27 stamped on any of yours? John C. Quote
