Hi all,

I recently inherited a Japanese sword that my grandfather brought home with him from WW2. It is in alright shape and I am hoping to refurbish it. I removed the handle to start the process of cleaning it up and I was hoping to get some help translating. Essentially the only kanji I know is “made” at the bottom. Thanks in advance for any help.

Please read the many posts about how to properly clean swords if you haven't already. You can find them using the search feature on this website.

After reading several guides and forums on the topic, I decided I will go for preservation over “restoration”. I’ll keep the YouTube style “restoration” efforts to my lawnmower blade and my ax from Home Depot. Thank you all for preventing a tragedy against a historical art piece today.
