William Jennings Posted May 10, 2024 Report Posted May 10, 2024 Hello all, a local seller has this sword for sale. He says it is from ww2. He has another sword as well and it is definitely from ww2. But this one seems....off. my biggest concern is the Mei. It is not chiseled into the tang like other signatures and seems to be on above or on top of the tang, which makes me concerned about its authenticity. Any thoughts and opinions would be appreciated! William Jennings Posted May 10, 2024 Author Report Posted May 10, 2024 Thank you @Ray Singer. So Edo Period? Was he a quality swordsmith? It this something worth investing in/having restored? Quote
Ray Singer Posted May 10, 2024 Report Posted May 10, 2024 Ujifusa was a lineage of Owari smiths. Yes, this appears to be Edo period and restorable, but that is a question best answered by a polisher evaluating the sword in hand. Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted May 10, 2024 Report Posted May 10, 2024 The leather covered saya is the WWII part. Civil swords brought into the war got that as a minimum. Many of them retained civil parts to some degree. Quote
William Jennings Posted May 10, 2024 Author Report Posted May 10, 2024 Okay, Thank you @Bruce Pennington and @Ray Singer for your help! Quote
