Hello everyone

I just found out about this forum thanks to a site called Japanese armour.

I'd like to seek your advice, opinions.

I live in Japan, in Tokyo and I bought 4 years ago, through Yahoo auctions, from a reputable seller from Shiga, a full samurai armour including the yellow screens shown in the photos attached.

I would love to get your advice, in case any of you could give me a hint about the armour itself, which period may it come from, any details that you may be able to observe from the pics that may give me a clue on its history, family, etc.

Thank you all, much, in advance.

Hello and welcome, Rob!

Well, I hate to be the party pooper, but this ensemble looks strongly like a late copy. Showa at best, I guess….

Hence it makes little sense to search for a family or pedigree. I’m really sorry!

As a side note, you mounted the sode the wrong way around.

Wow, that is terrible news, but I do appreciate you taking the time to share Uwe.

Anyone else here from the forum have the same opinion?

Agreeing generally with Uwe here. There may be something original in there, but hard to say from photographs. My advice would be to join a Japanese Armor Society and learn how to 'see' what you have.

These 'sets' were, and are still, created for a number of reasons, e,.g. to look good in a static display like yours, or for wearing for enactments, or shooting film/movie scenes.
