Dear everyone,

Greetings!

I just found another 94 gunto, with the smith "和泉守藤原国贞”.

it has only 2 seba which is not usual.

Could anyone be kind to tell if this is right. any help will be appreciated.

Very nice example, looks to be all original. Two seppa are correct as the other "Seppa" are molded into the Tsuba, sometimes seen on early swords.

personally its fishy to me.  the tsuba has been punched in and 1 seppa too.

the paint on the saya is just toooo pristine, and the ito doesnt show a clean enough exicution for a early high end type 94.  imho its been restored,  and theres nothing wrong with that if you dont mind.

Can sometimes find good condition gloss Saya, often there has been a leather cover protecting it or they have come out of Japan. One of mine and some others saved from Japanese listings:

yours has a almost light foggy ghosty reflection,  a true sign of the paints age. the one discussed projects pure high gloss. and im not saying theres anything wrong with restortation.  but if your paying premeum prices you want original.  look at the same  and habaki.  never seen use or dayligh hahahha.

but once again im not putting it down,  but would just like to put forward my opinion that its not original

It's a good point, much harder to recreate real wear and tear - even relatively minor. Especially on the Tsuka-Ito with handling marks.

In my opinion, it has a certificate of NDTHK so we called "yellow paper" attached with the smith "和泉守藤原國貞”. so the blade itself should be fine.

Perhaps somebody in Japan found another  type 94 sword set and tried to fit the blade.

I am curious to know if the sword set is original or restored. any help will be appreciated.

Looks OK to me, if the Saya is repainted it was done by proper craftsmen and is not a detractor. Otherwise it is all original mounts, very nice.

Some of examples from my collection to compare:
