dimitri Posted April 27, 2024 Report Posted April 27, 2024 Hello everyone. I hope all is well in this section of the forum. I just purchased these 2 items. the Horagai is very large, 41 cm long, it would be from the Edo period, its tip is not made of brass but like rolled up burlap and lacquered on top. The previous owner made me listen to the sound, it’s incredible. The Kura is also after the same person from the Edo period. There are the 2 protective mats for the horse, I fell in love with it, it is lacquered in quite a few places, I tried to see if there was a signature but apart from a fairly blackish mark in underneath I don't see any. Purchased in Japan a long time ago for the Kura like the Horagai by the previous owner. Today I had fun making a support for the Kura, I still have to paint and varnish but I'm quite happy with what I did. I will put a cloth on the support so as not to leave a mark on the wood with the copper rods. If you have any comments to make, don't hesitate, I'm always interested. THANKS. Dimitri 1 Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted April 27, 2024 Report Posted April 27, 2024 Serious age to the horagai triton. I like the Kura, complete with aori, shiodé and tassels. Those both look really satisfying, especially the three-dimensional way you display them. 1 Quote
dimitri Posted April 27, 2024 Author Report Posted April 27, 2024 Thank you Piers 🙏🙏🙂↕️. I couldn't miss it, the photos made me want it but in front it's more incredible. These two objects have traces of use, which gives an interest in having been used for me, there are Kuri which seem new so much that there are no chips or other small losses. I will try to see if the engravings on the Kura have a Mon or religious meaning. I will try to find out if there are any signatures or traces tomorrow. Also in France and we agreed to a meeting like that, no sending and more security. For later I will just have to find stirrups. Thank you 1 Quote
uwe Posted April 28, 2024 Report Posted April 28, 2024 Nice, as Piers said 👍 Stirrups shouldn’t be a problem. I would choose simple ones….maybe black lacquered?! 1 Quote
dimitri Posted April 28, 2024 Author Report Posted April 28, 2024 @uwe Thank you, I completely agree about the stirrups, simple to stick ah better with the Kura. 1 Quote
dimitri Posted May 6, 2024 Author Report Posted May 6, 2024 Here is the finished support. Varnished support and copper foot painted in satin black. I was able to put everything down quietly so I could admire it when I come to relax and admire my little collection. 2 Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted May 6, 2024 Report Posted May 6, 2024 Agreed. Unobtrusive, yet supportive to the saddle. 1 Quote
