A Ko-shoami, possibly Muromachi tsuba

Iron, sumiiri-mokkōgata tsuba with images of warabi (ferns) in the four corners of the tsuba in sukashi. The design is an old one dating from Jomon times, and represents a fern just as it emerges and unfolds, symbolizing spring, life, rebirth.

The shape and thickness makes this an interesting tsuba. Possibly Ko-Shōami. Hitsu-ana might be a later addition? If a later addition this may indicate this is an older tsuba: circa Muromachi.

Number "146" written inside nakago-ana indicates this tsuba have been part of a museum- or large collection.
