gun addict Posted March 24, 2024 Report Posted March 24, 2024 I believe I picked up a Korean governor HQ dagger or potentially an early Meiji naval dagger. Let me know if I am correct counting out the Paulowani, thank you! Quote
gorec5642 Posted March 24, 2024 Report Posted March 24, 2024 (edited) Good day! The upper dirk of your junior official of the Ministry of National Railways is from 1909, but the screw (menuki) is not native. The lower dirk is an early officer's sea coat of the 1883 model (rare). gun addict Posted March 24, 2024 Author Report Posted March 24, 2024 Thank you very much, I see now the menuki is not a railroad menuki but I suppose those can be lost easily. Surprising that a junior official can afford such a nice oversized custom made dirk with a koto Gassen blade lol Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted March 24, 2024 Report Posted March 24, 2024 The top one likely holds an actual tanto, right? Be nice to see some photos! Quote
gun addict Posted March 24, 2024 Author Report Posted March 24, 2024 Yes it does Bruce, both has nihonto inside. The top one is the Gassen blade with paper, I’ve taken many pictures unfortunately they’re all too large size for posting so I will try again shortly Quote

That it has an older Gassan blade in it really gives a bit of the gravitas of someone carrying it into wartime. 1 Quote
