Not sure if some of you follow this channel (that I personally love), the guy posted a video about the forge of Japanese swords:

Considering it begins with the BS "100 million dollar" sword, one does not have high hopes for the research quality of the remaining video.

Apart from the $105.000.000, he also shows a couple of nice Chinese katana! Oh, and how many times does one need to fold  the metal to get over a billion layers I wonder. I cannot be bothered to work that out, so I'll stick with 32.768 layers and folded fifteen times. What I do know, is that anywhere near than much heating, ie. being folded and re welded 30 plus times, will totally destroy the steel.

Indeed, there are some inaccuracies and overstatements however the technical explanations regarding the metallurgic aspects are worth watching I think. It's the first video I've seen explaining so well what happens at quenching time.

there are many videos about this subject available on YouTube, some better, some good, some with these 'inaccuracies'. Many are in Japanese, but that is not a problem as the pictures tell you all you need.
