Haven't got time to list all the things I see that are wrong...even with these poor pics but you said "any advice is most welcome" ....my advice is give it a miss.

i would say genuine but painted a nice house gloss black.  so you can be a ninja

Seems legit to me, too.  You see a lot more variation in Nagoya 95s than you see in the Tokyo gunto.

I will try to get better photos tonight. The black aluminum handle threw me off. I do think the paint is period, and a real gunto. Are there certain areas I should focus on?

Could just be the lighting, but the military generally shy's away from shiny paint except on parade items. 

Need pics of the stamps as well.

Agreed shiny is bad!!! This does seem to have a very slight gloss but nothing that could reflect.

As already stated above, it is kosher but repainted.  Made by Seki in about 1941.
