jeremy Posted March 18, 2024 Report Posted March 18, 2024 Hello Just a quick question. Can anyone recommend me a source outside Japan I can send my sword to get a saya made? I'm looking at ishime brown colour with basic horn fittings for iaido ? Preferably I want the saya to be made of honoki. Sending to Japan would be my first choice, but we all know the hassles that entails. Thanks in advance Jeremy Quote
ROKUJURO Posted March 18, 2024 Report Posted March 18, 2024 Jeremy, the man to ask in Australia would probably be Andrew Ickeringill. https://touken-togishi.com/ Quote
jeremy Posted March 18, 2024 Author Report Posted March 18, 2024 I've sent him an email. Thanks Quote
jeremy Posted March 20, 2024 Author Report Posted March 20, 2024 Got in touch with Andrew. He could only advise me to contact Nosyudo in Japan to get the saya made. I'm trying to avoid sending it to Japan because of all the hassles involved at the recipients end . Andrew isn't aware of any other artisans outside of Japan who could this work ? Maybe someone in the USA? Quote
ROKUJURO Posted March 20, 2024 Report Posted March 20, 2024 Jeremy, there are certainly some SAYASHI outside of Japan, but why don't you make a TSUNAGI which you could send anywhere without risk? You could even make a metal one if required. Quote
Franco Posted March 20, 2024 Report Posted March 20, 2024 There is Brian Tschernega on the West Coast (WA) USA. The habaki will be needed unless a new habaki is being made. It is important to note that local climate conditions (time of year/humidity) may affect the fit upon return. Quote

1kinko Posted March 22, 2024 Report Posted March 22, 2024 You can buy the wood to make your own saya from Namakawa Heibei. It's cheap, split in two, dry, and arrives in the U.S. in about 1 week. 1 Quote
b.hennick Posted March 22, 2024 Report Posted March 22, 2024 Making a proper Saya is difficult process. John Terado or Brian Tschernaga both in the USA di e excellent work. 1 1 Quote
