Alex A Posted March 16, 2024 Report Posted March 16, 2024 Stumbled across this blade, think its cool. Vaguely remember seeing circles within the choji before but never so intentional, 2 near the kissaki and 2 further down on opposite sides of the blade. Sometimes you just come across something different, interesting, nice blade. For those interested. Japanese sword Touken Komachi, Tanto, Shirasaya Hakushu ju Yoshinaga 2 3 Quote
Matsunoki Posted March 16, 2024 Report Posted March 16, 2024 One of those really does look just like a low full moon over a valley. Thanks Alex. Never seen that before. 1 Quote
Alex A Posted March 16, 2024 Author Report Posted March 16, 2024 I cant say if its a unique feature as cant remember and not looked into it but see it as a interesting blade anyways. Makes it stand out, perhaps a feature of the smiths work, but not searched. Cheers. Quote
Matsunoki Posted March 16, 2024 Report Posted March 16, 2024 Wonder if it’s a deliberate variant of the “moon over mt. Fuji” seen on some (wartime?) blades. 1 Quote
Alex A Posted March 16, 2024 Author Report Posted March 16, 2024 Aye, maybe Will add a pic for reference, if ok 3 Quote
Alex A Posted March 16, 2024 Author Report Posted March 16, 2024 On a side note, a blade in choji was sold here some time ago by a modern smith and i was like WOW. Its a case of the blade being intact without many polishes compared to older blades. Its a compromise. Quote
nulldevice Posted March 16, 2024 Report Posted March 16, 2024 There are a few swords on that site that are really calling to me. Especially with the exchange rate being so strong in favor of the USD currently. Beautiful tanto! Quote
Alex A Posted March 17, 2024 Author Report Posted March 17, 2024 Always find their prices ok Chandler. For the money the tanto seems fair This aint a sales pitch though, just like what i see We all have different tastes and budgets. For someone wanting a bang for their buck, for me this would be it. Yet some would rather spend their money on some unsigned koto pure foggy hamon tanto Perhaps someone looking to buy a Shinshinto Sukekane, Sukenaga or whatever may see this as a plausible and acceptable alternative, i would Horses for courses. 1 Quote
2devnul Posted March 17, 2024 Report Posted March 17, 2024 Hi, I love it, both Hamon and Hada. Thanks for sharing Alex. IMHO it is worth the price, even as being Shinsakuto, as it is a masterpiece. Quote
Matsunoki Posted March 17, 2024 Report Posted March 17, 2024 Interesting…..just when you think you see a “perfect sword” (whatever that is!) you see this little “feature” and once you see it you always see it and it irritates!…..if you know what I mean. 1 Quote

Quite a catch! Now that is something that could be used to bargain. Exit price 330k JPY dropped in my opinion to 230k JPY. Quote
Alex A Posted March 17, 2024 Author Report Posted March 17, 2024 To me its nothing, If it were mine you not be getting that kind of price drop Surprising what you can find if you look hard enough, even when you think a sword is perfect, one of your own. Handmade after all. 2 1 Quote
