Kata24 Posted March 9, 2024 Report Posted March 9, 2024 Hello, I’ve been looking lately for an antique katana and came across a Yasutsugu katana (no nbthk) in auction. Based on my research, the mon is questionable but the big give away is the blade itself (hamon doesn’t look right). I think it is fake but what do you think? The other reason why I think it is fake is this is a rare sword smith. It should be a much higher price if it was real. DRDave Posted March 10, 2024 Report Posted March 10, 2024 Just in case you hadn't seen it, I thought I'd post this link in hope that it might help. https://nihonto.com/the-yasutsugu-school-康継系/ Quote
John C Posted March 10, 2024 Report Posted March 10, 2024 J: Not saying it's a fake Japanese sword, just that there may be some other reason he's selling it (crack, tired blade, gimei, or whatever). Because of that, however, you can find some good prices with him if you are willing to own a blade that isn't perfect and has some flaws. John C. Quote
Kata24 Posted March 10, 2024 Author Report Posted March 10, 2024 I wasn’t sure and didn’t feel like risking 1.7k -2k so I let it pass, and I’ll probably end up spending a little more on a certified blade. Seller seems good but we all can make mistakes. My dilemma is understanding the reason for obtaining an authentic katana: personal collection or reselling value — but that’’s, of course, something I can only answer myself. Thank you for the reply’s. Quote

Díky tomu však u něj můžete najít dobré ceny, pokud jste ochotni vlastnit čepel, která není dokonalá a má nějaké nedostatky. John C. not fake sword, but fake signature Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted March 11, 2024 Report Posted March 11, 2024 I have 2nd and 3rd generation mon on file. This one seems to be similar to the 3rd generation one, but I can't speak to mei. Quote
Ed Posted March 17, 2024 Report Posted March 17, 2024 Good thing you passed on it if you had any thought of it being Yasutsugu. Absolutely gimei. Quote
