Real or Fake Yasutsugu?

Hello,

 

I’ve been looking lately for an antique katana and came across a Yasutsugu katana (no nbthk) in auction. Based on my research, the mon is questionable but the big give away is the blade itself (hamon doesn’t look right). I think it is fake but what do you think?

 

The other reason why I think it is fake is this is a rare sword smith. It should be a much higher price if it was real.

Not saying it's a fake Japanese sword, just that there may be some other reason he's selling it (crack, tired blade, gimei, or whatever). Because of that, however, you can find some good prices with him if you are willing to own a blade that isn't perfect and has some flaws.

I wasn’t sure and didn’t feel like risking 1.7k -2k so I let it pass, and I’ll probably end up spending a little more on a certified blade. Seller seems good but we all can make mistakes.
 

My dilemma is understanding the reason for obtaining an authentic katana: personal collection or reselling value — but that’’s, of course, something I can only answer myself.

It was sold at ~1.7k but probably I would have got it for closer to 2k as I bet the last bid was at that range.

what do you mean: bid? like it was some kind of auction? anyway, 2k is too low, gimei.

I have 2nd and 3rd generation mon on file.  This one seems to be similar to the 3rd generation one, but I can't speak to mei.

Good thing you passed on it if you had any thought of it being Yasutsugu. Absolutely gimei.
