Sansei Posted February 17, 2024 Report Posted February 17, 2024 On a recently restored Kiyondo blade and saya, I am having the Tanobe Sayagaki done. This katana is returning from shinsa Tokubetsu Hozon. I thought that an additional investment of $250 would be reasonable. Any thoughts? 1 Quote
SteveM Posted February 17, 2024 Report Posted February 17, 2024 Very reasonable, and a wise choice. Well done. 1 Quote
Franco Posted February 17, 2024 Report Posted February 17, 2024 Tanobe's sayagaki is like icing on the cake. His calligraphy is wonderful. His thoughts/opinions precious. Further confirmation. Quote
cju777 Posted February 17, 2024 Report Posted February 17, 2024 Some would even say his sayagaki is more valuable than the NBTHK assessment, go for it. For others, while Ray is getting it after a good TH shinsa result, it may be worthwhile to get the sayagaki done first. While the shinsa should offer their own assessment, I know of a recent example where the shinsa result differed greatly from Tanobe sensei's assessment... and to re-shinsa means de-registering and spending all that to submit again. With Tanobe sensei on there, it's harder for the shinsa team to just take a cursory look and move on. They do have a lot to go through. Just something to consider... 2 Quote
