Interesting find on jauce

I like to look through yahoo auctions Japan via jauce for fun and found something interesting. The sword is a supposed masamune. It is not papered but does have a shumei, though I don't know who attributed it(I can't read Japanese). The seller claims that the current owners ancestors passed it down as a "masamune" and that it ended up overseas after ww2 going through multiple hands before ending up in the current owners hands. Now whether or not this story is true I cant say, however the sword does look nice. Its also way outside of my price range.

Admittedly, I am skeptical of the listing. Mostly due to the lack of papers or proof of the supposed story. I just posted it because thought the sword looked interesting.

The appraiser is supposedly Hon'ami Kōtoku (1554-1619). 

 

The second Masamune to show up on NMB in a week. Lucky times, indeed.

There is a guy there who takes shinshinto blades, uses some interesting chemical to make very dark utsuri and sometimes he puts a signature with a gold marker or chisels ichi if he passes it as ichimonji.

 

P.S. No, you are not going to buy a quality blade for 50$ that others missed. You'll save yourself and us a lot of time if you stop trying. Yes, we all made our share of mistakes, and many were worse than this one or certainly more expensive.

Fair enough, I'm just going to save up for a good blade. Also do you have a link on the guy, it sounds interesting and I want to know what to look for.

Not a Masamune. But on the other hand, it does look like a very nice blade. Not sure if the utsuri is fake or enhanced. But would be very interested to see what attribution it would get if it were unsigned/attributed.

Kinpun mei were not seriously used until Meiji period - a nice try but a clear fake...

I don't even plan on bidding on this. Also the 13m yen is apperently the buy it now price.
