scott 88 Posted February 14, 2024 Report Posted February 14, 2024 All, I apologize for starting what is likely a common thread, but I have a sword that is a mystery and I need some expert input into what I have found. Please forgive newbie language. The blade of the sword is 27.5 inches long and the sword weighs 3.1 pounds. What confuses me about this sword is the following: The Blade It appears that the blade has a very prominent Jihada which I think is Itame Hada. The blade is steel in that magnets do adhere to it. The blade has a defined Kissaki and a defined Yokote The blade is still somewhat sharp, but not razor sharp The blade has a full tang, but no signature. It does have a couple of black marks that look like a 'I' and a 'O' The Fittings The Habaki has numbers stamped on it The handle appears to have the correct wrap and the correct ray skin The scabbard The scabbard seems to fit the sword in its design and its ornamentation To me, the scabbard seems too ornate So I hope I may be able to tap into the collective knowledge of the group and I thank you all in advance Quote
waljamada Posted February 14, 2024 Report Posted February 14, 2024 Hi and welcome, the blade you have is not a Japanese blade or classified as nihonto. It is a manufactured Chinese made blade that often have those number stamps on the habaki, that same steel pattern and koshirae which is all the pieces together besides the blade such as the guard, handle and scabbard etc.. PNSSHOGUN Posted February 14, 2024 Report Posted February 14, 2024 Adam is right, it's a poor Chinese fake: http://www.jssus.org...japanese_swords.html Quote
Brian Posted February 14, 2024 Report Posted February 14, 2024 Very very obvious fake. Nothing there is really right for a genuine sword. Quote
Paz Posted February 14, 2024 Report Posted February 14, 2024 Not even a paul chen made Japanese like sword. But welcome to the boards dude. Quote
