Rivkin Posted January 27, 2024 Report Posted January 27, 2024 Very hard to say anything without seeing details of the work and overall shape (its too distorted when photographed from one of the ends, the camera needs to be in the middle). Fittings are good. Habaki is quality end of Edo or Meiji, kozuka is upper grade (waki Goto?) end of Edo. Quote
Ray Singer Posted January 27, 2024 Report Posted January 27, 2024 While it is correct that the papers attribute to Sukemitsu, the blade is not signed Sukemitsu. Mei: Bishu Osafune ___ (suriage) Nengo: Eisho gannen ___ (suriage) 1 Quote
Ray Singer Posted January 27, 2024 Report Posted January 27, 2024 Fuchi is not totally clear but I believe it is signed by Inoue Mototsune, carved at the age of 88.. 2 Quote
Rivkin Posted January 27, 2024 Report Posted January 27, 2024 Need boshi and details of the hamon. Sugata can in principle be Eisho. So far nothing overly concerning, might be a genuine package. Quote
Walter H Posted January 27, 2024 Author Report Posted January 27, 2024 The total length of the blade is 28 1/16" Quote
Rivkin Posted January 27, 2024 Report Posted January 27, 2024 Looks good. Can be Sukesada, can be other names, but does appear to be genuine late Muromachi Bizen blade, the signature is most likely ok. 1 Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted January 28, 2024 Report Posted January 28, 2024 There is a distinct mark of quality about everything here, great find. 2 Quote
rgus48 Posted January 28, 2024 Report Posted January 28, 2024 It just screams quality. What a beauty Quote

This particular sword is signed Bishu but the papers say Bizen in kanji and in English. Beautiful wakizashi though and great overall package. 備州 Bishû 備前 Bizen 1 Quote
DoTanuki yokai Posted February 2, 2024 Report Posted February 2, 2024 Yea the paper also says „Bizen KUNI“ what is not written on the tang. Maybe the paper is not for that blade ? Is there something you can check if it fits the sword like Nagasa, I’m not familiar with these papers. Quote

Bishu refers to Bizen (the more formal way of referring to the province). This is not suspicious in any way. Bishu can also be seen used for Mihara blades in adjacent Bingo province. 1 Quote
DoTanuki yokai Posted February 2, 2024 Report Posted February 2, 2024 I just wonder because the NBTHK uses exactly what is written on the Tang on the papers. Is there something that connects the paper with the sword without doubt ? Quote
Ray Singer Posted February 2, 2024 Report Posted February 2, 2024 The paper has a nagasa of 1 shaku 8 sun 4 bu. 1 Quote
