Trouble identifying a sword

Hello, I’m having trouble identifying this sword. It is not like the traditional ones I see, and I would like to know more about it. Any help would be great. I got told it was a battle-worn sword from the WWII era.

With only that photo, you'll still have trouble identifying it.

The blade tip looks legit, but is it an NCO, an officer, or civil blade? Without seeing the tang, can’t tell you anything else.

 

Obviously, that handle and handguard are postwar Bubba Work.

The remnants of fittings suggest a Kyu Gunto saya, a Shin Gunto Fuchi.....it's all rather hideous. The blade may be an older one.

Actually, there is a thread somewhere, either at NMB or maybe Warrelics, about knives made during the war, where the G.I. took plexiglass and made their own handles on various blades.  If this looks old, maybe it was done by one of those guys.
