New to Collecting and a Tsuba Question

Hi, all:

 

I got this Tsuba during a recent visit to Japan. Can anyone provide any details about its design or the signature on it? I’d love to learn more about it and to know what resources are available for education.

Hello dependazelle!  Welcome to this great forum!

 

I don't know much, but your tsuba looks like it is a hand forged tsuba to me!  Don't know anything about the mei.  I am certain much more knowlegeable members than I am can tell you about it.  Maybe place it on the "translation assistance" part of the forum?

 

Oh yeah, you and I seem to have the same forum logos!  That will be fun!!

It wasn't that long ago half the people on the forum had Crane/Tsuru logos - some people change their logo as often as their underwear - [yes I mean you Stephen   ]

Interesting to note the shape of all three are the same.

The last one has the mei on the right hand side of the nakago-ana the others are on the left - all seem to follow the same rounded square shape. I was wondering if the second one above was decorated later?

Absolutely true, and why are some on the left and some on the right of the nakago-ana? A lot of 'generations' or a lot of gimei?
