chgruener Posted January 17, 2024 Report Posted January 17, 2024 Hello all, This sword was damaged by shrapnel and still has an original metal hanger? Scabbard is wrapped in leather (also struck). Handle seems short (possibly blown off?) with the blade being very thick and heavy. The blade was struck causing damage and the tip is broken. Does anyone have an idea as to when this blade may have been made? I will probably not be able to remove the handle. Thank you in advance. see Imgur link: https://imgur.com/a/J9yNq4q 2 2 Quote
DoTanuki yokai Posted January 18, 2024 Report Posted January 18, 2024 Looks pre 1600, so it looks like a koto blade that I would say is shortned in my opinion. Koshirae looks like edo period with leather cover for the saya to use it for WW2. 1 Quote

I tried on this one, but it was really stuck, and I didn’t have the correct punch on hand to remove it without damaging it. The others I took apart were pretty easy though. Quote

Stephen Posted January 21, 2024 Report Posted January 21, 2024 Blood thurst, the fact it was damaged in combat...you've seen this before Chris. I even think the military forum has a thread on it. 1 Quote
