My old Japanese copy of the Token Yoran 刀剣要覧 (Heisei 16, 2004) gives values in similarly high figures, expressed as hundreds (or thousands) of Man, where '450' for example would mean 4,500,000 yen or 450万.

Steve,

The looseness is likely due to drying out and shrinkage of the leather seppa.  Couple of ideas - make a leather seppa to go on the other side of the tsuba; buy a couple of spare seppa to make the fit tighter.  I have added seppa to a number of gunto in my collection to make the fit snug.  They don't cost that much, luckily, as you will have to buy a few of them to get 1 or 2 that you like and that fit well.

Find a leather shop or "tack shop" <-- place that makes saddles. Take the leather seppa you have now and tell them to make another like it, without the strap coming off the side.

Great idea. Or with the strap, add length, and a second button!

Does the moisture in the leather cause issues being in contact with the blade? Assuming there's no shirasaya for longterm storage?

Apologies for being off topic,
Maybe a "leather seppa" thread could be interesting in the military sword section,
Cheers,

A longer strap with second button is certainly an option.

Once a leather is properly tanned, it should be clear of any moisture. Leather should be oiled to prevent drying out, so I see no reason you couldn't put a dab of your choice of sword oil on it.

Steve,

This question was already answered..Mark gave you a list of Nobukini’s..it’s one of them. Hawley 15 ones.

Why do you want to pinpoint the smith? Why don’t you study the blade and learn something from it?

I wasn’t talking about replacing the seppa with strap. I was talking about making a separate one for the other side of the tsuba.  A singular seppa with no strap on it. Simply made of leather to tighten the fit.

I apologize, I have not been following the conversation closely enough about the strap. If it does not reach the snap on the scabbard cover, that is a whole different issue.

If they can make one with a double snap even better

I could have a bunch made and sell them on EBay

Yes I have the chart I forgot about it !

Good ideas Thank you all

I meant to add what Bruce said ! It dose reach the scabbard snap But it’s torn that’s why it’s not snapped I didn’t want to further damage it

Your sword appears to already have a Hozon kanteisho. Is your intention to resubmit it with a hope to get a different result?

What I was going to ask, just making sure not another.

Sorry I didn’t mean to make this confusing

I wasn’t talking about getting my sword  submitted again

What did it cost when it was submitted so I can add that amount in the price when l decide to sell

Also what would it cost be to submit different sword ? Is the price based on that particular sword?

Yeah, the ranking system is not meant to display how proficient we are at NIHONTO, as Brian has defended many times.  The rankings are a reflection of how much you post and react and log on to the site.  Maybe a different system would be better but that's a different conversation.  I've been on here since November of 2022.  I am most certainly NOT a "Veteran" in the world of NIHONTO but I've strived to learn a lot in the 14 months that I've been here.

That said, nobody has to read or respond to Sword's posts if they don't want to.  If they didn't, the posts would not get momentum.  It's that simple.

I believe the negativity expressed towards Swords is more detrimental to NMB than the questions he asks.

You don't like him or his questions?  Ignore him and ignore his posts.

Isn’t that why we’re  here on this forum

I think that is precisely the source of the criticism toward you, Steve.

Are you here for a love of swords??? Or are you here to solicit information from members, in an attempt to profit from more naive collectors down the road? It is not clear to me.

If you continue to skirt those questions, I fear everyone will have you on "ignore" before too long,
Just trying to help,

Sincerely,
-Sam

I wasn’t trying to skirt question or mean to solicit information for naive collectors as you pointed out

I like this sword and not planning to sell it I was curious what the cost of papers  and how you go about getting papers since I never had one before

I will find have found out my self had I known others felt this  way

Sometimes you must grow thick skin, I learned that as I was trolled by someone no longer here or changed names when I started. In addition, to harsh but constructive critism I used for learning where my knowledge lacked, and studied. From the outside lookong in it seems you have taken some advice and done a little study. Nothing wrong with a slow learning  curve about a complicated subject. For now I would SITFU, listen and absorb, peak your study from reflecting on questions and/or answers given even criticism; you can also google and find most answers to your questions... which most time lead you to intersting forums here, actual sites like the NBTHK, and some rabbit holes. Congratulations on your sword!

Just my advice, otherwise we are:flog:
