I have two Navy belts but one has a hook design that I have never seen before. I usually see the spring loaded clip at the end of the straps, but this one I just got has a type of a loop. The belt is also slightly different with 3 rows of stitching on the outside whereas my other one has the stitching on the inside only.

Thoughts?

Haven't seen them before, however seems like the spring clip breaks easily so it makes sense. Here is one for sale.

Looking in my F & G, the buckle on the one I am asking about is Fig. 70 item (iii) a Junior officer…since it has the silver anchor and sakura. My other one has the all brass version shown as item (v).

Usually found on army service belts, they are called 'snail hooks' (for obvious reasons).

The free hanging hook at the top is to latch the snail hook onto when a sword is not being worn.
