jrs Posted October 25, 2009 Report Posted October 25, 2009 Hi everyone. I just wanted to share a couple of quick photos (actually taken with my iphone) of a blade that just returned from the polisher. This blade had been discussed last year in another post (link follows). http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=3245&p=23860#p23860 I just wanted to share the pictures because the blade turned out really beautiful. I will be submitting it for shinsa early next year and will post results then. Quote
John A Stuart Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 Hi jrs, The jihada shows well, but, will wait for better ones that show the activities of the hamon. Who was the polisher? Woodrow Hall maybe? John Quote
nihonto1001 Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 That looks great. Did you ever figure out the mei? Jon Quote
goose710 Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 James Although i'm just a newbie here and i haven't seen too many blades, i must say that blade is beatiful!!!! The polisher in my humble unknowing opinion did a fantastic job!!! I think we'd all like to see an overall picture of that baby! Congratulations! Charles L. Grusovnik (AKA da gooseman) Quote

Agreed, Oei-Bizen is moreover known for a special kind of gunome in nioi deki and also for bo-utsuri and a typical boshi. I suppose the polish was not done in Japan, as otherwise the sword would have been submitted to shinsa. Anyway thanks for the excellent pictures. Eric Quote

jrs Posted October 26, 2009 Author Report Posted October 26, 2009 The polisher advised that the mei on the blade was bad, and so it was removed while being restored. I will be submitting it for shinsa to find out who it is attributed to early 2010. I will try to take better pictures to show the hamon when I have the time. There are a few "before" pictures of the blade in the original post linked to above. I do have a few more if anyone wants to see them but they are not very good quality. The only other details I can share right now (I'm at work and don't have the blade in front of me) are that it measures 24", has maru mune and the hamon is very gunome-midare on one side and more suguha on the other. drbvac Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 I checked out the other link and I have to agree that Bob did a great job of the blade - it will be interesting to see the shinsa as they don't even look like the same wak. Quote
cisco-san Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 wow - really nice sword Is it allowed to ask who was the polisher and where is he from? Quote
