Hello everyone! :)

Hope all of you are fine!

I am trying for few days to translate a mei on a Seki blade I have. It is just signed on one side but to me it is a quite hard translation as the kanji are complex. Furthermore they are not that readable as the tang is rusty, the first kanji(close to the habaki) is almost completly erased.

As I did before, I drew the mei on a sheath to be more understandable, I guess....

Honestly, I think this mei is very hard to translate.

It is possible that the mei will be untranslatable as it is damaged by the rust, in that case I would have done everything I could.

If some of you have a bit a free time to help me, I will be gratefull.

If you think my question is not interesting, please excuse me.

Thanks

Bruno

OOPS!

I forget to precise that the question mark is for the unreadable kanji close to the habaki. The translation needs probably to be translate on the other side!

Thank you Simon. :)

I was quite far from this translation to be honest!

Too bad that the kanji were damaged, it makes the translation a real challenge.

Hi Bruno,

I just tried to respond but my post must have gone off into hyperspace...here goes again...nice transcription of a hard to read mei by the way...I am pretty sure this is NOSHU SEKI JU KOJIMA KATSUMASA SAKU. Katsumasa was a Seki gunto tosho so this will probably be a seki stamped blade. You can check a mei of his in Slough p.80 to be doubly sure this is him.

Regards,

George.

I have a feeling that I have recently done this for somebody else? Is this possible or maybe you just did not believe me?

I believe it reads NOSHU SEKI JU KOJIMA KATSUMASA SAKU and is a low grade Showa-to.

Clive Sinclaire

PS: As a matter of fact, the above is a tranliteration into Romanji, NOT a translation into Her Majesty's English.

Somebody has already asked you to translate this mei? Curious. It was not me I promess. I think it is a coincidence.

Anyway, thank you very much for your help to. It is really nice of you.

I hope one day I will good enought in translation in order to help others my turn.

Ps: thanks a lot to Simon and George for their precious help. :)

This exact question was posted recently under the name of "irca" on sunday oct 18th, pics included ("help mei noshu seki ......."). It was fully answered. What else do you want? This is getting ridiculous.

Please come down Reinhard. :|

I saw the previous post of Irca after Simon told me someone else asked the same question. I do apologize for that, but I think it can happens to everyone to miss a topic among the important number of them.

Hi,

I have recently joined the forum and came accross this thread as I was looking for more information on this smith as I have just been shown a blade signed "NOSHU SEKI JU NIN KOJIMA KATSUMASA" so another of his blades? or as this thread is now old maybe the same one looking for a home.

Joe

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one, unless your post is really relevant and adds to the topic..
