Lordd_Humungous Posted December 28, 2023 Report Posted December 28, 2023 Which was used most commonly for type 98s, copper (with brass accents), brass, or brass with copper plating? Reading around, I've seen claims that all three were used to some degree but it looks like in terms of commonality it goes copper>copper-plated>brass Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted December 28, 2023 Report Posted December 28, 2023 Brass is by far the most common material. On occasion you can find fittings made of copper, these are not that common and usually found on good quality swords. 1 Quote

On ohmura and the threads in this forum it looks like most swords fittings have a reddish tint if not a dark brownish red finish. Quote
John C Posted December 29, 2023 Report Posted December 29, 2023 In general, swords purchased by officers could have a variety of embellishments depending on how much money they had to spend. I also have a sword with copper-washed brass fittings. But remember that copper is soft and not a preferred material for combat swords. In an article by Hakusui Inami, he notes that "brass is for parades, iron is for combat" (or words to that effect). John C. 1 Quote
