Looks like this one:  YOSHIOKI (嘉興), Shōwa (昭和, 1926-1989), Gifu – “Yoshioki” (嘉興), real name Ueno Yakichi (上野弥吉).   Unusual "yoshi"

Not much info, but looks to be born Meiji 17 (1884) Oct 1.  registered as a Seki smith Showa 18 (1943) March 2 (age about 60) and was living in Bugi-gun, (probably read as) Kamifuchi-mura

I recently inherited a few swords and would like to ask for assistance in identifying the maker of this one..

This sword came in the usual Shin Gunto garb.

Might have been a real mumei nakago, but surely this is a crudely incised mei with a Dremel tool or a 4-inch nail!!??

BaZZa.

Typical chippy mei done in factory.

Some used big names.

Probably

上野嘉興 = Ueno Yoshioki

I am really admiring your capacities and those of our other NIHONGO experts  to read this kind of MEI!
To me it looks like chiselled with the left foot; I would have no clue!

Well then I would like to thank you all for the varying opinions / It is a Wakasashi and had the usual shingunto furniture.

All the best...Kris..
