Brian, I'm experiencing (small) problems with the board running Windows 7 ultimate (1920x1080 resolution).

Writing too many lines in a reply exausting the visible space and having to scroll down, gives me problems in the position of cursor. Occasional screen freezing occur, solved only with restarting.

Seems not occurring on other boards...

Shouldn't be a matter of hardware as I'm on an I7 with 6giga DDR.

Any idea ? :?

Hi Carlo,

This is probably because your Win 7 can't really cope with an applet or something. I would suggest making sure you have all the latest Win 7 patches installed as well as the latest GFX driver for your videocard (my bet would be a problem with the videocard)

Personally I wouldn't recommend Win 7 just yet. We've been testing it for about 8 months now and although it's better than Vista, it still has it's problems.

Especially with the Norton products. I've been forced to trash my Ghost and 6 months (paid)

of 360.

I have the same problem under Windows XP (although no freezing happens). I therefore think it's a problem with phpBB, not the Windows version you're running.

Well if it happens next time, you can always look in the eventvwr to see what happened. If you want to send me the events in there around that moment, I'll be happy to try and troubleshoot it for you.

The solution - NEVER buy the first release of any new software especially a new operating system. Microsoft has never got it right the first time, or second, or third or ..... (I thought Win 3.1 was just fine)

Microsoft products have more patches, fixes, etc than my old 94 ford :-)

Have you tried duck tape? :-)

I am still on XP, prefered 98, and will probably not go to Vista or 7. Ugh.

Oh..and I advised not to use any Norton product anymore. yes, they may work, but they are real resource hogs and slow down more than they help.

All those 4 Gig RAM machines mean nothing when we add so much stuff, we are worse off than when we were on 512 megs

Yes, I expect the problem is with older phpBB software. I am not in a position to update the software currently as we have so many mods and changes, I would be lost

I am going to have to find a real expert and pay them. :?

Hey, just for that little thing happening to me and Guido ? Not sure it's worth the money. First my posts are getting rarer and second if I had to make a long post I'll open a Word sheet to write it and then

just ctrl+c and ctrl+v...

I also have the same problem as Carlo and Guido with the scrolling while writing. Whats more, is that it jumps after typing after the visible amounts. So I do the same thing; type it in word then C&P it to the field. Makes editing a royal bitch though.

"Get a Mac" <= can only be said by someone who has one :-)

Macs aren't bad, but the support on them is ...

Dirk,

with a Mac you don't need support (unless you run into Time Capsule which is real crap). Not because they are perfect, but because they are away from the typical troubles Windows has.

Been doing some investigating into this "bouncing cursor" issue, and what i am coming up with is that it is a known Internet Explorer bug in version 8. So is everyone with this issue using IE8?

Can you take a look at this thread, and see if the symptoms are the same? http://www.simplemachines.org/community ... c=309186.0

What worked for many ppl is the following:

Activate IE 8's Compatibility View by clicking the icon next to the address bar that looks like a broken piece of paper. This will force IE 8 to render the page like IE 7 does, which may fix this issue. IE 8 will then conveniently continue to turn on Compatibility View whenever you visit this domain.

I will continue to research the issue, but seems definitely an IE issue so far.

I had two solutions;

Brian's suggestion of clicking the compatibility button worked immediately signalling to me that this is indeed a problem with IE8 compatibility with phbBB.

Second, I downloaded Google Chrome which it turns out, is a much faster browser that also eliminatest the jumping cursor issue. It's a great browser too. Gotta love Google.
