ysake Posted December 8, 2023 Report Posted December 8, 2023 Hello, I would like to know if you can help me learn more about my katana since it only says that it is attributed to the kaifu school. Quote
DoTanuki yokai Posted December 8, 2023 Report Posted December 8, 2023 I think the paper says Shinshinto Kaifu so it was made in the late edo period after 1800. I cant say more then it looks nice because there would be much more clear closeup pictures of the sword necessary and i dont know much about the Kaifu school. 2 Quote

mecox Posted December 8, 2023 Report Posted December 8, 2023 Emm, as Christian says described as "Shinshinto Kaifu" by NBTHK kanteisho dated Heisei 26 (2014) Jan 31. For background and examples of Kaifu: 2 1 Quote

Franco Posted December 9, 2023 Report Posted December 9, 2023 (edited) From the images this is an excellent looking [Shinshinto period] copy of an earlier [Koto] period sword. Edited December 9, 2023 by Franco D clarification Quote
ysake Posted December 9, 2023 Author Report Posted December 9, 2023 oh isn't it an original kata? I thought those papers were produced for original katanas Quote
Brian Posted December 9, 2023 Report Posted December 9, 2023 Emm, what he means is that the smith who did it in the Shinshinto period (probably 1800's) copied the shape and style of the earlier period swords. It's a compliment, it is definitely an original Nihonto. 1 Quote
